LUCAS DAVIDSON - ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

3 FEBRUARY - 9 FEBRUARY 2020

Artist Lucas Davidson will take up residency at The Lock-Up to install his site specific solo exhibition LIVING WITH UNCERTAINTY.  This exhibition will present a series of new installations that aim to disrupt the traditional subject-object relationship within the viewing experience. LIVING WITH UNCERTAINTY is an exhibition that causes viewers to question what they are actually seeing. The temporal shifting qualities of the work offer a way to engage with prolonged attention and contemplation, skills that have been diminished in today’s accelerated hyper-connected world.

ABOUT LUCAS DAVIDSON

Lucas Davidson is an artist who works across a variety of media including sculpture, photography, video, sound and installation. His works are often temporal in nature and are recognised for their ability to challenge perception. Employing light, space and movement to slow down the viewing experience, Davidson creates environments that actively engage viewer participation in order to question ideas about materiality.

Davidson completed his Master of Fine Art at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney (2012). Recent solo exhibitions include: Casual Forces, Maitland Regional Art Gallery, Maitland (2019); Social Construct, Installation Contemporary Carriageworks, Sydney (2018); I am a Strange Loop, Dominik Mersch Gallery, Sydney (2017); Animal Magnetism, Canberra Contemporary Art Space, Canberra (2016); Habitual Loop, The SUBSTATION, Melbourne (2015); The Weight of Water, Linden New Art, Melbourne (2014).

Recent selected group exhibitions and awards include: Light Matter, Australian Centre for Photography, Sydney (2019); Conscious Process, Artbank, Sydney (2018); Josephine Ulrick & Win Schubert Photo Award, HOTA, Gold Coast (2018); Art OMI International Artist’s Residency, New York (2016); Digital Portraiture Award, National Portrait Gallery, Canberra (2016); New South Wales Visual Arts Fellowship, Artspace, Sydney (2015); Fauvette Loureiro Memorial Artists Travelling Scholarship, Sydney College of the Arts (2015); Redlands Konica Minolta Art Prize, National Art School, Sydney (2015); Totally Looks Like, Stills Gallery, Sydney (2014).
