20 MARCH 2015 - 22 MARCH 2015

An endurance performance and installation by creative duo SQUIDSILO (Ashley Scott and Julie Vulcan).

RIMA

20, 21 & 22 MARCH 2015 ONLY

OPENING 6PM FRIDAY 20 MARCH 2015

EXTENDED GALLERY HOURS - 10AM - 4PM SATURDAY & SUNDAY

RIMA is an endurance performance work that combines installation elements and technology to inhabit the spaces of The Lock-Up.

Visitors movement will be tracked, measured and monitored to become part of the work while Julie Vulcan performs a number of duration performances across the spaces of The Lock-Up.

Working with details from her research into political prisoners in solitary confinement, Vulcan develops a number of responses, which complement and underlie the ideas explored in RIMA. Blurring fact and fiction, the diary of an anonymous prisoner unfolds as twitter fiction, triggered by audience interactions within the activated installation inside the gallery space.

The durational work explores physical space and virtual fiction and makes explicit strategies for survival within the interminable passing of time. By investigating isolation as punishment and/or redemption and the relationship of memory to stimulus, the work seeks to interrogate the will for survival.

RIMA was developed after an Artist in Residence research period in August - September 2013. The work, responding closely to the site, will feature at The Lock-Up over the weekend of the 20, 21 and 22 March 2015.
